It's been quite a long time since my last post. I got side tracked by all the holiday madness, but the holidays have come and gone and with them Sam has reached some new milestones. Sam is no longer on any medications as of December 2011 and we are truly thankful for that. We were able to take our 1st real vacation as a family since he has been born. My parents,sister,brother-in-law, nephews, husband, Sam, and myself all went to the Smoky Mountains and had a wonderful Tennessee Christmas. It was so awesome to be able to enjoy each other and not be worrying about upcoming surgeries or Dr's visits or medication. We enjoyed watching the boys rip open their gifts and laugh and play and I ate way too much and it was wonderful!!!!
Sam enjoyed his 2nd New Year in a very uneventful fashion...he slept right through it!!!!! We were also able to spend a few days in Cleveland, TN with my parents to celebrate my dad's birthday (which we were very grateful for !!!!) My dad had emergency open heart surgery right before Thanksgiving , so now he and Sam have matching scars.
Sam had , what I hope will be his last, surgery about 2 weeks ago. I like to refer to it as his "search and rescue". ...Sam had undescended testicles and just for fun we threw in a circumcision!!!! He is doing wonderful...he has started to army crawl and pull up on things and get into all kids of stuff...just like a normal 17month old boy. His therapists are thrilled with his progress and so am I....I never thought that this day would come when my biggest worry is whether or not he is going to stick his finger in a light socket!!! Oh happy day!!! We are still working on weaning him from the g-tube and that is , as always, a slow process..he is making a little improvement so we will keep on trying.
I am so looking forward to warmer days and experiencing the joy of watching him get on a swing for the 1st time or slide down a slide. We have been walking on the Greenway for the past 2 days and he has a look of pure joy when the wind blows in his face and other people come running by with their dogs or on their bikes...He kicks his feet and squeals with delight!!!! It is so much fun to experience things through his eyes....he finds so much joy in the little things that I tend to take for granted. I can't wait for all the other good stuff...1st time in a pool....he loves the bathtub....1st time in music class....I know that the road ahead is uncertain, but Sam is definitely teaching me to sit back and enjoy the ride one day at a time!!
